    About 1 Vision Solar

1 Vision Solar is an established renewable energy installation company specialising in domestic, commercial and industrial solar PV and battery storage systems.

As our project portfolio continues to grow, we're looking for a skilled and motivated Solar PV Electrician to join our installation team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified electrician who enjoys working with renewable technologies and wants to develop their experience with solar PV, battery storage, inverter systems and associated electrical equipment.

    The Role

We are looking for an electrician whose primary responsibilities will involve the DC electrical installation, equipment installation and commissioning of solar PV and battery storage systems.

The role will involve working alongside our existing installation teams on a variety of domestic and commercial projects.

Unlike a traditional electrician position, the majority of your work will focus on installing solar PV components, inverters, battery storage equipment, DC electrical systems and associated monitoring and control equipment.

Although AC electrical installation will not form the majority of your day-to-day responsibilities, you must be a fully qualified electrician with the knowledge, qualifications and competence to undertake AC electrical work independently when required.

This is a hands-on installation position suited to someone who takes pride in their workmanship, enjoys technical challenges and wants to develop their skills within the renewable energy sector.

    Key Responsibilities

    Solar PV & DC Installation

    • Installation of DC isolators, protection devices and electrical containment.
    • Installation and connection of PV strings to solar inverters.
    • Carrying out DC polarity, voltage, insulation resistance and continuity testing as appropriate.
    • Working alongside our installation teams to ensure installations are completed safely and efficiently.

    Battery Storage & Inverter Installation

    • Installation of domestic and commercial solar PV inverters.
    • Installation and connection of battery energy storage systems.
    • Installation of battery cabinets, battery modules and associated protection equipment.
    • Installation and configuration of hybrid inverter and battery storage systems.
    • Assisting with or independently undertaking equipment commissioning, depending on experience.

    Metering, Monitoring & Associated Equipment

    • Installation of generation meters, energy meters and CT clamps.
    • Installation of export limitation and monitoring equipment.
    • Installation and connection of communication cabling, including RS485 and associated control wiring.
    • Configuration of inverter communications and remote monitoring systems.
    • Installation of associated safety, isolation and control equipment.

    AC Electrical Work

    • Undertaking AC electrical installations when required.
    • Connecting inverters and battery storage equipment to AC electrical supplies.
    • Installing associated AC isolators, protective devices and electrical accessories.
    • Carrying out electrical inspection, testing and verification within the candidate's competence.
    • Ensuring electrical work complies with BS 7671 and relevant industry requirements.

    Commissioning & Maintenance

    • Supporting the commissioning of solar PV and battery storage systems.
    • Identifying and rectifying faults within DC systems, inverters and associated equipment.
    • Carrying out maintenance and remedial works where required.
    • Completing installation checklists, test results and commissioning documentation.
    • Maintaining high standards of workmanship, health and safety and site professionalism.

    Essential Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must be fully qualified electricians, even though the position predominantly involves DC solar PV installation.

    We require:

    • NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or recognised equivalent qualification.
    • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
    • Completed electrical apprenticeship/AM2 or an equivalent recognised route to full qualification.
    • Valid ECS Gold Card or equivalent evidence of recognised electrician status.
    • Competence in AC electrical installation, safe isolation and electrical testing.
    • Good understanding of electrical systems, cable installation and termination.
    • Good practical problem-solving skills.
    • Full UK driving licence.

    Desirable Experience

Previous experience with solar PV and battery storage systems would be advantageous, particularly:

    • SolarEdge, Solis, SolaX or similar inverter systems.
    • Solar PV DC string installation and testing.
    • Energy meters, CT clamps and export limitation equipment.
    • Commercial-scale solar PV installations.
    • City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing or equivalent.
    • Recognised Solar PV and Electrical Energy Storage System qualifications.

Previous renewable energy experience is highly desirable; however, we would also consider a competent, fully qualified electrician with the right technical ability and willingness to develop their knowledge of solar PV and battery storage systems.

    What We Offer

    • Permanent, directly employed PAYE position.
    • Company van and fuel card.
    • Overtime opportunities.
    • Performance-related bonuses.
    • Ongoing technical training and development.
    • Opportunities to gain experience with leading solar PV and battery storage technologies.
    • Genuine career progression opportunities.
    • A varied workload across domestic, commercial and industrial renewable energy projects.

    Working Location

Our head office is based in Bridgend, South Wales.

Projects are undertaken throughout South Wales and other parts of the UK, so flexibility to travel is required.

Occasional overnight stays may be necessary depending on project requirements.
