Experienced SEND Teacher - Immediate Start
Are you a passionate and experienced SEND teacher looking for an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference?
We are seeking an enthusiastic, nurturing and skilled SEND Teacher to join our mainstream primary school, working within our Enhanced Learning Provision, the Discovery Hub.
The Discovery Hub is a dedicated SEND room within our mainstream school, supporting pupils with a range of complex communication, sensory and learning needs. We are looking for a teacher who understands that every child communicates, learns and develops differently, and who can create engaging, personalised learning experiences that enable pupils to thrive.
This is a long-term opportunity starting as soon as possible, with the potential for the right candidate to take on an extended role leading and developing provision within the Discovery Hub.
You will play a key role in delivering tailored learning opportunities that support pupils' communication, interaction, emotional regulation, engagement and independence. Working alongside two experienced additional adults, you will help provide a calm, structured and stimulating environment in which pupils feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
You will also be part of a wider mainstream primary school community, contributing to an inclusive ethos in which every pupil is supported to achieve their potential.
The experience we are looking for
We are particularly interested in teachers with practical experience of several of the following approaches:
Communication and language development: Supporting functional communication and using visual systems such as Now and Next boards, visual timetables, symbols, photographs, Makaton and communication/ALD boards.
Communication and interaction: Intensive Interaction, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), objects of reference and modelling turn-taking through motivating activities.
Specialist approaches: SCERTS (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support), Colourful Semantics, Zones of Regulation and Attention Autism (Bucket Time).
Sensory and multisensory learning: Active learning, water and sensory play, tapping out sounds, air writing and sensory tracing.
Structured teaching and engagement: Pre-tutoring key concepts, breaking instructions into manageable chunks and using calm, consistent repetition.
Physical and sensory development: Fine motor activities such as Dough Disco and Sensory Circuits.
These approaches form an important part of our daily practice and reflect the needs identified within many of our pupils' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
You do not need experience in every area. Further training can be provided for the right candidate, although the ability to confidently implement a range of these approaches from the outset would be highly beneficial.
The ideal candidate will:
Have experience teaching pupils with SEND, particularly those with complex communication and learning needs.
Have a strong understanding of communication, interaction and individualised learning.
Be confident adapting teaching and using visual, sensory and multisensory strategies.
Be patient, creative, nurturing and committed to helping pupils make meaningful progress.
Work collaboratively with support staff and colleagues across the school.
Be enthusiastic about developing inclusive practice and supporting pupils to access learning in ways that work for them.
Why consider this opportunity?
The opportunity to make a genuine difference to pupils with complex needs.
The support of two experienced additional adults within the Discovery Hub.
The chance to work within a mainstream primary school with an inclusive ethos.
A long-term placement with the potential to develop into a role leading and shaping the provision.
Opportunities to develop your specialist SEND knowledge and practice, with further training available.
If you are an experienced SEND teacher looking for a rewarding new challenge and are passionate about helping children with complex needs communicate, engage and flourish, we would love to hear from you.
