We have an exciting and rare opportunity created by the retirement of a long-serving and highly respected manager, whose career with us began as a Trainee Environmental Health Officer and developed over almost 40 years with the Council. It is a role with real legacy, profile and potential - offering the right person the chance to lead, shape and further develop key environmental services for west Norfolk. As our Environmental Health Manager (Environmental Quality), you will take on a senior and influential role at the heart of environmental protection and public safety across the borough.
You will provide professional leadership to our skilled Environmental Quality, Flood and Water Management and Emergency Planning teams, managing service delivery, budgets, performance and improvement while working closely with elected members, senior managers, partner agencies, businesses and local communities. You will also be expected to play a leading role in the Hunstanton coastal defences project, coordinating the Council's contribution and helping to shape and deliver this major programme with partners and stakeholders. This is a varied and high-profile role where your advice, judgement and ability to translate complex legislation and technical information into practical action will make a real difference.
We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking environmental health, environmental protection or related professional with strong management experience and the confidence to lead across a broad and complex service area. You will bring sound technical knowledge, political awareness, strong communication skills and the ability to work strategically with partners including Norfolk County Council, the Environment Agency, DEFRA, emergency services and other stakeholders.
This role would suit someone who is motivated by challenge and keen to shape services, influence policy and support positive outcomes for residents, businesses and the wider environment. You will need to be comfortable operating at both strategic and operational level, representing the Council professionally and responding effectively to emerging issues, including occasional work outside normal office hours.
If you are looking for a role where you can lead, innovate and make a visible impact on the quality, safety and sustainability of our borough, we would welcome your application.
