Spark Energy UK installs residential solar PV and battery storage systems across England and Wales. We are building employed regional installation teams in the South East and Bristol alongside our head office operation, supported by our own SparkOS platform for surveys, installs and evidence.

Spark Energy UK installs residential solar and battery systems across England and Wales. We are building our own regional installation teams - employed, not subcontracted - and we need a roofer to lead the roof side of the crew at our new Bristol hub, covering Bristol, Bath, Gloucestershire, Somerset and South Wales.

You will be one of a three-person crew: a lead electrician, you, and an installer's mate. The roof is yours: mounting systems, flashing, weatherproofing and making sure the array is fixed so it stays fixed. The mistakes in this trade come back as a leak eighteen months later, so we hire for care as much as speed.

What the job is

• Four domestic solar and battery installations a week with your crew, Monday to Friday, with Friday mostly kept for deliveries, kit preparation and any remedials
  
• Setting out and fixing roof anchors and rails on tile, slate and flat roofs; panel mounting; flashing and weatherproofing; bird protection where specified
  
• Working at height from scaffold and roof ladders, and keeping the site tidy from the customer's point of view
  
• Evidence photos on every job through our own app (SparkOS), so the work you do is the work that gets checked
  
• Occasional distance work when a job sits at the edge of the hub's patch - mileage and overnight allowance are written into your contract
  

How we hire - fast

A short call about availability, travel and what you installed last month; a practical conversation with one of our installers; a paid day on a live install with one of our existing crews, at full rate; two trade references from whoever signed off your work; then an offer with tools and PPE named in the letter. We aim to get from first call to decision inside a week.

Start dates are set around the person, not the premises - we are hiring for this hub now.

What you must have - we verify all of this before an offer

• Roofing experience on domestic pitched roofs - tile and slate - with references to back it up
  
• Working at height competence, evidenced
  
• Asbestos awareness, refreshed within the last 12 months
  
• Full UK driving licence
  
• Right to work in the UK
  

What we would like, and will pay for

• Solar PV installation experience - if you are a good roofer without it, apply anyway; the solar unit (City & Guilds 2922-34) is a short course and we fund it
  
• CSCS card
  
• Experience with in-roof and flat-roof mounting systems
  
• Scaffold awareness or PASMA
  
• £34,000 - £40,000 a year depending on experience
  
• Shared crew van, tools and PPE supplied
  
• Funded training, including the 2922-34 solar unit if you do not already hold it
  
• Travel and lodging policy in writing: mileage beyond the hub's local patch and a nightly allowance for overnight work
