Solar PV Design Engineer

Due to continued growth and expansion within the OCS Energy Services Division, we are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Solar PV Design Engineer to join our Renewables team.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of producing cost-effective, technically robust solar solutions for a wide range of commercial Solar PV systems.

• Undertake initial feasibility studies and energy-yield assessments for potential sites.
• Develop commercial Solar PV technical designs using PV SOL, PVSyst and PVCase.
• Produce technical design drawings, including single-line diagrams and initial system layouts.
• Carry out site visits to identify electrical points of connection, equipment requirements and appropriate technical solutions.
• Support project pricing and the preparation of tenders and quotations.
• Prepare and submit Distribution Network Operator applications.
• Develop designs and technical information through to construction stage.
• Review design-software outputs to ensure proposed systems are technically compliant and commercially viable.
• Work closely with colleagues across the OCS Energy Services and Renewables teams.

• Previous experience designing commercial Solar PV projects.
• Experience using Solar PV and electrical-design software, including PV SOL, PVSyst, PVCase, AutoCAD or Amtech.
• Ability to produce commercial solar designs and confidently interrogate design-software outputs.
• Understanding of scopes of work, technical specifications, project programmes and tender cost controls.
• Understanding of contracts, contractual conditions and associated obligations.
• Knowledge of current G99 and G100 requirements, electrical regulations, building regulations, codes of practice and relevant legislation.
• City & Guilds 2372/2399 or an NICEIC Solar PV qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
• Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to communicate technical information clearly.

• Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
• Monday to Thursday: 08:00-17:00.
• Friday: 08:00-15:30.
• Office-based in Stirling, with hybrid working available subject to departmental and business requirements.
