Location: City of London (3 days onsite / 2 days remote)

Qualifications: Minimum 2 years' paralegal experience (Top 100 law firm or in-house)

Position Overview

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) focused on making electricity grid connections faster, more flexible and more sustainable.

As electricity demand continues to grow, the company plays an important role in supporting the UK's transition towards a more electrified and sustainable future, delivering safe and seamless grid connections for customers across Great Britain.

As a Senior Paralegal, you will be responsible for assisting the Head of Legal in managing the corporate legal function on a daily basis. You will assist with drafting and reviewing legal documentation, carrying out legal research, supporting corporate governance and monitoring compliance across the business. You will also act as a key business partner, serving as a first port of call for other departments with their legal queries.

This is an important position within the legal team, helping to support the continued growth of the business. The role would suit someone with experience across a range of commercial and corporate contracts, strong commercial acumen and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. It would also suit someone highly organised, with experience putting processes in place to manage and monitor compliance across a business.

Key Responsibilities: Supporting the Head of Legal

• Tracking legal documents, obligations contained within those documents and managing renewals for legal documents.
• Assisting with document summaries and administering signing processes.
• Organising meetings, taking attendance notes and ensuring follow-up actions are completed.
• Assisting with the management of external solicitors and suppliers to the legal team.

Drafting and Reviewing Legal Documentation

• Reviewing documents received from third parties and providing comments to the Head of Legal.
• Drafting documents using standard templates for review by the Head of Legal.
• Managing the negotiation and drafting of NDAs.

Legal Research

• Carrying out discrete legal research in relation to varying matters applicable to the business, including HR, IP, regulatory and corporate governance.
• Preparing internal memos on findings from legal research.

Assisting with Corporate Governance

• Assisting with the Company Secretary function, including filings, preparing board packs and preparing board minutes.
• Helping with scheduling board meetings and circulating documents in advance of board meetings.

Compliance

• Working with the Head of HR and Head of Legal on policies and procedures implemented across the business and developing a training, monitoring and auditing programme in relation to the same.
• Liaising with the wider business in relation to any monitoring and auditing programme, as well as carrying out risk assessments.
• Executing remedial actions and reporting to the Head of Legal on compliance.
• Assisting other departments with similar programmes and their ongoing monitoring.

Business Partner

• Maintaining relationships with key stakeholders across the business.
• Assisting with improving the legal team's processes and procedures.
• Implementing technology solutions to drive efficiency within the legal team.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Proven experience in company law and property law, preferably in an in-house legal team within the energy or utilities sector.
• Experience in compliance and liaising with senior individuals across a business to ensure compliance with legal requirements and standards.
• Strong negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Attention to detail and a problem-solving approach to work.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
