    Are you an experienced Environmental Engineer with a strong background in complex engineering or decommissioning programmes? This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key leadership role supporting a major UK decommissioning programme, ensuring environmental compliance, sustainability, and regulatory excellence throughout the project lifecycle.
    You'll act as the environmental subject matter expert, shaping environmental strategy, supporting engineering delivery, and ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and ISO14001 standards.

    The Role
    As Package Manager - Environmental Engineering, you'll provide expert environmental guidance across the full decommissioning lifecycle-from strategy and planning through to construction and delivery. You'll work closely with engineering teams, safety specialists, contractors, and programme leadership to embed environmental best practices and ensure compliance with UK environmental regulations.
    This is a highly influential position with responsibility for environmental strategy, risk management, regulatory interface, and environmental case development.

    Key Responsibilities
    Environmental Strategy & Governance

    • Provide expert input into decommissioning strategy, including phasing, prioritisation, and environmental optimisation
    • Develop and maintain Environmental Management Strategies aligned with ISO14001
    • Lead development of key environmental documentation, including:
      • Environmental Management Strategy
      • Radiological Monitoring Strategy
      • Carbon Management Strategy
      • Sustainability Strategy
      • Regulatory Interface Arrangements

    Environmental Case & Compliance

    • Lead development of Environmental Cases for decommissioning activities
    • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, regulatory permits, and UK standards
    • Identify environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies
    • Ensure environmental requirements are embedded into engineering design and delivery
    • Support BAT assessments, ENVID processes, and environmental planning

    Programme Integration & Stakeholder Management

    • Act as the intelligent customer for environmental studies and outsourced services
    • Coordinate with contractors, demolition teams, and facility managers
    • Ensure environmental compliance across construction and decommissioning activities
    • Engage with regulators, internal stakeholders, and programme leadership
    • Validate environmental studies and monitor supplier performance

    Capability Development & Continuous Improvement

    • Deliver training and mentoring on environmental legislation and best practice
    • Support capability development across programme teams
    • Promote environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives
    • Ensure lessons learned are captured and implemented


    What We're Looking For
    Essential

    • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline
    • Extensive experience in environmental engineering within complex programmes
    • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, compliance, and regulatory frameworks
    • Experience working within ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems
    • Proven experience supporting engineering, decommissioning, or infrastructure projects
    • Strong stakeholder management and technical leadership skills

    Highly Desirable

    • Experience in nuclear, regulated, or hazardous environments
    • Knowledge of BAT, ENVID, and environmental case development
    • Experience supporting demolition or facility decommissioning programmes
    • Experience managing environmental suppliers and technical studies
