The opportunity:

A growing, founder-led solar PV and battery systems business is seeking a Lead Solar Engineer to play a pivotal role across technical decision-making, customer engagement, and delivery quality.

The business delivers a varied portfolio of projects across domestic and commercial settings, spanning both private and public sector clients. Projects range from straightforward domestic installations to more complex systems involving battery storage, export constraints, and higher technical scrutiny.

The business is experiencing strong commercial growth and securing further opportunities. Your role is a key appointment, providing senior technical capability and helping enable the next phase of growth.

This is a hands-on, install-adjacent role where the majority of time will be spent in customer-facing technical conversations. It is not a desk-only engineering position.

This opportunity may suit individuals currently operating in roles such as Solar Engineer, Senior Solar Engineer, Lead Solar Engineer, Senior Solar Installer, Technical Lead, or Electrical Engineer within renewables, as well as install-led technical professionals working across solar PV and/or battery storage systems, who are looking to step into a broader, more influential technical role with the opportunity of future leadership.

YOUR ROLE

You will operate as a senior technical authority within the business, supporting system design interrogation, technical surveys, and customer-facing technical discussions.

Day to day, you will work closely with the business owners, frequently acting as the face of the business to customers. You will play a key role in ensuring systems are designed, priced, and delivered correctly first time, reducing technical risk and avoidable rework.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Acting as a senior technical point of reference across solar PV and battery systems
• Working closely with the business owners to support current and future customer opportunities
• Leading and supporting customer conversations around proposals, system design, and technical queries
• Attending technical surveys and identifying constraints and risks early
• Reviewing and interrogating system designs for feasibility, performance, and practical delivery
• Providing technical input into pricing and quoting decisions
• Working closely with installation teams and acting as a point of escalation on technical matters
• Reducing rework, site issues, and avoidable cost through early technical intervention
• Liaising with external suppliers and partners on pricing, scheduling, and project requirements

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL CAPABILITY

• Solid, hands-on experience with solar PV and battery systems
• Confident working across:
  • System fundamentals
  • Inverter and battery selection
  • Cable routing, protection, and practical installation constraints
  • Able to understand and interrogate system designs

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

• Background as a solar engineer, senior solar installer, or install-led technical professional within a solar PV and/or battery systems environment
• Comfortable operating in customer-facing, technically advisory discussions
• Strong practical judgement and install-led mindset
• Professional approach suited to a founder-led, growing business
• Interest in developing broader leadership responsibility and long-term involvement in the business

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

• Larger domestic or light commercial systems
• Three-phase installations
• Exposure to DNO applications and/or MCS or audit environments
• Fault diagnosis and remedial experience
