    Job purpose:

    London Luton Airport (LLA) is looking for an experienced Environmental Compliance Manager to play a critical role in our journey towards becoming Champions in Sustainable Aviation through managing the company's environmental compliance requirements.

    The Sustainability function plays a critical role in protecting today and enabling tomorrow and this role fits into the team's purpose through ensuring we meet our current environmental regulatory requirements whilst future-proofing our operations through the development of a forward-thinking environmental compliance strategy.

    Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

    Lead the management and further development of the company's environmental compliance strategy in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders

    • Hold a detailed understanding of current and emerging environmental compliance requirements, and make recommendations to meet increasing requirements
    • Partner with departments across the business (e.g. Legal, Projects, Estates, Technical Services) as well as regulating bodies, to ensure comprehensive management of environmental compliance
    • Excellent understanding of ISO14001 and ISO50001 Environmental and Energy management systems, including experience in internal and 3rd party environmental compliance auditing
    • Manage increasing environmental compliance in relation to environmental planning conditions relating to water, ground contamination and other environmental requirements
    • Ensure water discharges to ground, surface water and effluent treatment plants are within environmental permits and trade effluent consents and investigate issues and develop action plans to ensure compliance where required
    • Understanding and management of climate adaptation risks, including implementation of operational changes to address these risk in the short and long-term
    • Develop or update necessary operations or procedures to ensure environmental compliance across all aspects of environmental management, such as water, air quality, waste
    • Key stakeholder in the drainage infrastructure upgrades project to ensure future infrastructure complies with applicable environmental regulations and meets future needs
    • Ensure emissions testing is carried out on combustion plants, including reporting to the regulators, and developing plans to reduce emissions
    • Engage with 3rd party partners and tenants to ensure relevant procedures are followed to ensure environmental compliance and minimise the risk to the environment
    • Work with internal teams to identify environmental compliance risks and input into the risk governance process
    • Streamline the environmental compliance reporting process across the business by developing a prioritised list of compliance requirements throughout the year
    • To support the Net Zero Senior Manager and the wider sustainability team in delivering LLA's Responsible Business Strategy, including supporting on environmental aspects of the RBS
    • Contribute to delivering a great guest experience by performing your role with accuracy and efficiency. Recognising that every task, whether guest-facing or behind the scenes, contributes to supporting the company's overall LLA Way Strategy and service standards
    • Proactively and positively promote the LLA Way initiatives and projects with all employees and the wider airport community.
    Knowledge, skills and experience:
    • Minimum 5 years of experience working in environmental management role
    • You will bring great technical skills and expertise in relation to understanding of current and future environmental regulatory framework and planning requirements
    • Deep understanding of environmental compliance in a complex business setting, in particular in Environmental Permit, Consent and Planning condition compliance
    • Experience with engaging with regulators and other stakeholder in relation to ensuring environmental compliance for our operations
    • Excellent organisational skills with an ability to meet deadlines, while working in a flexible and collaborative way
    • The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-changing environment
    • Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to take on challenges outside of your comfort zone
    • Good inter-personal skills, with an ability to develop relationships and influence stakeholders
    • A Degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability or similar
