    SERT is recruiting on behalf of a fast-growing renewable energy installation business for a Solar PV & Battery Technical Lead to support the delivery of high-quality, compliant residential systems across the UK.

    This role is suited to an experienced solar engineer or electrician looking to step off the tools and move into a technical leadership and design authority position.

    The role

    You will take ownership of the technical design, specification, and quality assurance of residential solar PV and battery storage systems. Acting as a senior technical point of contact, you will ensure all designs and installations meet MCS standards, BS 7671, G99/G100, DNO requirements, and manufacturer specifications.

    Key responsibilities
    • Lead end-to-end technical design of residential solar PV and battery systems
    • Produce compliant PV layouts, inverter/battery specifications, cable schedules, and single-line diagrams
    • Conduct desktop technical assessments using surveys, photos, roof plans and design tools
    • Validate roof layouts, shading analysis and system performance estimates
    • Ensure full compliance with MCS, G99/G100, and DNO requirements
    • Provide technical guidance to installers, project managers and customers
    • Support installer vetting, training and QA processes
    • Troubleshoot technical issues and refine designs based on installer feedback
    • Improve internal technical processes, templates and design standards
    • Keep up to date with evolving solar and battery technologies and regulations
    • Proven experience designing and specifying solar PV and battery storage systems
    • Strong understanding of electrical installation practices and BS 7671
    • Experience working to MCS standards
    • Confident in interpreting surveys, photos and roof plans
    • Strong attention to detail with a methodical approach
    • Clear communicator, comfortable advising installers and stakeholders, UK driving licence (for occasional site visits)
    • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations Experience with PV design software (PVSol, Helioscope, OpenSolar)
    • Battery commissioning or manufacturer training (e.g. GivEnergy, Tesla, SolarEdge)
    • MCS Solar PV qualification or equivalent
    • Experience leading teams or managing technical workflows
