We are seeking an experienced Commercial Rooftop Solar Designer to join our growing renewable energy team. You will be responsible for designing high-quality rooftop PV systems for commercial and industrial clients, supporting projects from feasibility through to construction and handover.
This role is ideal for someone with strong technical design skills, excellent attention to detail, and hands-on experience using industry-standard solar design software.
Key Responsibilities
Design commercial and industrial rooftop solar PV systems from concept to construction-ready stage
Produce detailed layouts, electrical schematics, stringing diagrams, and equipment schedules
Carry out energy yield assessments and performance modelling using PV SOL, PVsyst, or equivalent software
Assess site constraints including roof structures, shading, access, and DNO limitations
Support feasibility studies, technical proposals, and tender submissions
Liaise with project managers, engineers, and installation teams to ensure designs are buildable and compliant
Ensure all designs meet relevant UK standards, regulations, and best practice (G99/G100, IEC, MCS where applicable)
Provide technical input during project delivery and respond to design-related queries
Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience designing commercial rooftop solar PV systems
Strong working knowledge of PV SOL (PVsol) and/or PVsyst (essential)
Experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD software
Solid understanding of DC/AC system design, inverters, mounting systems, and grid connections
Knowledge of UK solar standards, DNO processes, and commercial project requirements
Ability to interpret roof drawings, structural reports, and electrical schematics
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Experience with large-scale or multi-roof commercial portfolios
Familiarity with battery storage or EV infrastructure design
Electrical engineering or renewable energy qualification
Experience supporting planning or DNO applications
