The Lead Solar Technician will oversee on-site installation, commissioning, and testing of residential Solar PV and battery storage systems. Youll take a hands-on role while guiding installation standards, ensuring compliance, and supporting junior team members during field operations.
This role is ideal for an experienced Solar PV electrician or technician ready to step into a senior, leadership-focused position.
Lead and carry out the installation of residential Solar PV and battery storage systems
Complete AC and DC wiring, cable routing, containment, and terminations
Install inverters, batteries, isolators, and associated protection devices
Conduct testing, inspection, and commissioning of systems
Ensure installations meet MCS standards, BS 7671, and G98/G99/G100 requirements
Interpret roof surveys, electrical schematics, and system designs
Identify and resolve technical issues on-site
Provide guidance, mentoring, and support to installers and junior technicians
Coordinate with roofers, project managers, and customers to ensure smooth installations
Complete installation documentation, test certificates, and system handovers
Maintain exceptional safety, compliance, and workmanship standards
Stay up to date with emerging solar and battery technologies
Qualified electrician or experienced solar technician with hands-on Solar PV and/or battery installation experience
Strong understanding of electrical installation practices and BS 7671
Familiarity with MCS standards and Solar PV installation requirements
Ability to interpret electrical drawings, surveys, and roof layouts
Competent in inspection, testing, and commissioning
High attention to detail with a safety-first mindset
Strong communication and leadership skills
Ability to support and guide installers on-site
Comfortable working independently within a fast-moving environment
UK driving licence
18th Edition Wiring Regulations
Battery storage training or certification (e.g., GivEnergy, Tesla, SolarEdge)
MCS Solar PV qualification or equivalent
Experience leading installation teams or overseeing field operations
Experience with G98/G99 applications
£55K annual salary plus bonus
