  • Environmental Management System (EMS) Lead (Contract) Reading 6+ Months

We're collaborating with a prestigious global consultancy that has just secured a significant contract within the water industry. Due to this major win, we're seeking an experienced Environmental Management System (EMS) Lead to join their team in Reading on a minimum 6-month contract, with strong potential for extension.

This pivotal role involves enhancing our client's EMS in response to increasing regulatory scrutiny and a potential future pursuit of ISO 14001 certification. You'll work within the Integrated Management System (IMS) team, reporting to the IMS Manager, to develop and gain approval for a multi-year EMS improvement plan, strengthening its robustness and compliance.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Scope and execute the internal EMS audit programme, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and internal performance goals.
    • Support the review and development of documented business processes and procedures, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements.
    • Act as a subject matter expert to help the organisation learn from environmental non-conformances and embed these lessons to prevent recurrence.
    • Consolidate and package all work completed during the secondment, ensuring a robust and seamless handover to the incoming permanent EMS Lead.

    Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

    • Substantial experience in environmental management systems, with a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and ISO 14001 principles.
    • Proven ability to lead internal audits, develop and refine business processes, and influence organisational learning from non-conformances.
    • Strong stakeholder engagement skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and deliver structured outcomes within a fixed timeframe.
    • Experience in the water sector or a similarly regulated industry would be highly advantageous.
    • Confidence in acting as a subject matter expert and capable of producing high-quality documentation and handover materials to support continuity and long-term EMS improvement.
