They are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Solar Design Engineer to lead on Engineering Design, Project Planning, and Design Optimisation to deliver high-performance solar solutions.

Responsibilities and duties of the Senior Solar Design Engineer role

Reporting to the Hiring Manager you will:

• Oversee and support a team of electrical design professionals to ensure timely delivery of project designs.
• Guarantee all outputs align with industry regulations, internal quality benchmarks, and sound engineering principles.
• Carry out design risk evaluations and assess technical design packages prior to submission.
• Lead or contribute to Solar PV system design, encompassing site inspections, layout planning, and grid connection applications (e.g., G99).
• Develop detailed technical specifications and costings for project bids, collaborating closely with commercial and sales teams.
• Produce electrical layout plans, perform cable sizing and protection studies, and work with relevant design software (e.g., CAD).
• Engage with stakeholders to confirm design expectations are met and offer in-depth engineering advice where needed.
• Visit project locations to collect and validate design-critical data through technical site assessments.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (2382-22)
• Level 4 Award in Electrical Design & Verification (QCF 2396)
• Solid knowledge of Solar PV systems, electrical design standards, and G99 grid connection requirements
• Confident leading design teams, sharing technical knowledge, and offering clear guidance
• Comfortable using CAD tools, PV Syst, and PV Sol for system design

Bonus if you also have:

• Completed CPD or specialist solar training
• Level 3 qualifications in Electrical Installations (QCF 2357 or 2365)
• Level 3 Award in Inspection & Testing (QCF 2391)
• Hands-on experience with commercial-scale solar designs
